a challenging project of renovation and addition to a renown historical building in central yerevan had to be respectful to the heritage and simultaneously bring modern and attractive atmosphere to the development. the brief of the client was to create a hotel design, that should be recognised as the most iconic and unique hotel in the city, an important tourist destination and a valuable addition to city fabric. another challenge was to achieve the required amount of floor space in a high rise building while preserving the existing monument as the main accent and symbol of the cluster. in order to meet these requirements we created a concept where the hotel block would be  divided into two volumes, which would allow us to avoid heavyweight building above the existing one and at the same time create an interior street flowing into public realm, connecting two active paths in the city and introduce a new typology of urban public space in the area.
